About Kiana Jimenez

A Life Between Worlds
Born in the Dominican Republic, Kiana spent her early childhood immersed in a culture defined by vibrant colors, close-knit family ties, and traditions that carried echoes of music, food, and folklore. Yet her family’s pursuit of new opportunities brought them to New York—a place whose that would later influence her writing.
Growing up between two worlds, Kiana grappled with a constant sense of otherness. She was a bilingual child navigating the spaces between languages, cultures, and expectations, often feeling like she was peering through glass at a world she couldn’t fully inhabit. This tension became the fertile soil from which her creativity grew.
From as young as eight years old, Kiana was captivated by the magic of storytelling. She carried journals everywhere, scribbling down poems, scenes from imaginary worlds, and emotional reflections she didn’t have words to share aloud. Her teachers noticed her writing talent early, encouraging her to enter school contests and showcase her work. She won a few small accolades along the way, quietly planting seeds for the artist she would become.
“Writing was my way of surviving a world that often didn’t make sense to me. It was my language when my real voice felt too small.” — Kiana Jimenez
Entering the Shadows: Temperamental Mental Soup
In 2009, as a freshman in high school, Kiana found herself yearning for a place to spill her secrets. Inspired by the growing world of online blogs, she created Temperamental Mental Soup, an anonymous website where she posted poetry and reflections too dark and vulnerable to share under her real name.
There, she explored themes that few teenagers dared speak of openly—mental health struggles, depression, grief, loneliness, and the unsettling beauty found in pain. Her writing was raw and often haunting, reflecting both her internal battles and her fascination with gothic literature.
The blog became her clandestine lifeline, a place where she could bleed her emotions into words. Though her audience was small, readers left comments filled with gratitude and resonance, reminding her that even anonymous art could save lives—including her own.
“It wasn’t about being read by thousands of people. It was about knowing I wasn’t alone.” — Kiana Jimenez
Throughout high school and beyond, Kiana continued writing quietly. She pursued various academic paths, including initial studies in criminal justice and law, before ultimately realizing her true calling was always in words and storytelling.
A Life Reshaped by Grief
The trajectory of Kiana’s life—and her creative work—was forever changed in 2019, when she became a mother. Her daughter, Khaleesi, was born with Dandy-Walker Malformation and hydrocephalus, requiring brain surgery on her very first day of life. Despite her fierce fight, Khaleesi passed away at just 22 days old.
This loss shattered Kiana’s world. Grief became a constant companion, permeating every corner of her existence. But in the depths of despair, Kiana turned again to writing. Her words became a vessel for processing pain, honoring her daughter’s brief but profound impact, and connecting with other grieving parents who felt invisible in their sorrow.
“Khaleesi only lived 22 days, but she gave me a lifetime’s worth of purpose.” — Kiana Jimenez
It was during this period that Kiana’s writing grew bolder, more unflinchingly honest. She began writing longer-form essays, delving into topics like navigating medical trauma, the silence surrounding infant loss, and the unique cultural stigmas faced by Latina mothers in grief.
The Path to Poetic Bipolar Mind
Following Khaleesi’s passing, Kiana continued pouring herself into writing. But life had more transformations in store. In 2021, she faced the end of her marriage—a moment of profound heartbreak but also of rebirth. Through the pain, she discovered a fierce desire to step fully into her own identity, both as a woman and as a writer.
No longer content to hide behind anonymity, Kiana made the courageous decision to rebrand Temperamental Mental Soup into Poetic Bipolar Mind. The new name reflected both the poetic soul at the heart of her writing and the dualities she had always navigated: light and dark, joy and sorrow, hope and despair.
Under this new identity, Poetic Bipolar Mind began to evolve from a personal blog into a creative platform with a mission—to give voice to mental health struggles, destigmatize conversations around grief and trauma, and create art that offers connection and solace.
“Poetic Bipolar Mind is not just a name—it’s my truth. It’s how I’ve lived my entire life, between extremes, finding meaning in the spaces in between.” — Kiana Jimenez
A Creative Partnership: The Birth of Emotive Fusion Art
In 2023, Poetic Bipolar Mind entered a new era when Kiana’s path intertwined creatively and personally with David White, an Irish-American illustrator known for his gothic, surreal, and emotionally intense art.
David, who had recently embraced sobriety and was diving back into his creative pursuits, found an immediate resonance with Kiana’s writing. Their connection was electric—emotionally, creatively, and spiritually. For the first time, Kiana began sharing with David the writing she had guarded so fiercely for years.
David encouraged her to share her work publicly under her real name, insisting that her voice—and her vision—deserved to be seen. Together, they began imagining a form of art that blended narrative poetry and visual storytelling, creating immersive experiences that reached far beyond words or images alone.
Thus was born Emotive Fusion Art—an innovative art form unique to Poetic Bipolar Mind. This style merges Kiana’s deeply emotional writing with David’s powerful illustrations, exploring universal themes such as grief, resilience, vulnerability, and transformation. Each piece is crafted to engage audiences on a visceral level, evoking reflection, empathy, and connection.
“Our work is for people who’ve felt alone in their darkness. We want them to see that even the most shattered parts of life can become something beautiful.” — Kiana Jimenez
Their partnership quickly led to:
- Original art-and-poetry bundles that sold online and attracted collectors seeking multi-sensory art experiences.
- Custom commissioned works for clients wanting deeply personal pieces blending narrative and visual art.
- The creation of a new visual aesthetic for Poetic Bipolar Mind’s website and branding.
- Increased social media engagement and community growth as readers and viewers resonated with their collaborative vision.
